Anyone know the accepted breakpoint for the change from the 1st Edition '67 Owner's Manual (August '66) to the Second Edition (April '67)? I have a June-built car, and got dinged (by a 400-level Master Judge) for having a Second Edition Manual; just trying to break the code

Re: Breakpoint - '67 Owner's Manual Editions?
John,
Its things like that that make the NCRS judging process lousey. I'm not aware of any code and would be very surprised if there was one. . In the absence of hard information logic must prevail. How can an April 1967 manual not be correct for a June 1967 built car.????- Top

Re: Breakpoint - '67 Owner's Manual Editions?
John,
This question came up quite some time ago and a poster who was aware of the process responded that the manuals were taken out of a bin at random and that 1st & 2nd editions shared the same bin so it was possible that a 1st edition manual could end up in a late build car. I have a late build 67 and the manual that came with the purchase is an original print 1st edition. I only have word of mouth that it is the manual that came with the car.

Re: Breakpoint - '67 Owner's Manual Editions?
With final production being in July of 67 I'm surprised that a 2nd edition dosen't work. Prior knowledge without anything in writing? I'm looking at 6 year old judging sheet which gives 5 orig. & 5 cond. points. How did they whack you points wise?- Top

A 400 point level just means dumb at a higher level!- Top

Re: Breakpoint - '67 Owner's Manual Editions?
John - I hate to apply some sort of logic to the process, but if a September 1966 built 1967 Corvette (which I have) can have a First Edition, August 1966 printing of the Owner's Manual (which it has and it's in well used shape and the card is gone so I believe it to be the original one) then a Second Edition Owner's Manual printed in April, 1967 could well be in a car build in May or later in 1967. This is not rocket science. Pete- Top

Re: Breakpoint - '67 Owner's Manual Editions?
I agree - sounds like good logic to me. It only cost me one point, but didn't make sense; next time I'll argue (constructively, of course ) about it. If there was some agreed-upon breakpoint, you'd think it would be in the TM&JG.- Top

John,
Through my many judging experiences, listening to the experiences of others, and collecting glovebox items over the years I think most NCRS interior judges are quite weak on judging the glovebox material. They simply are not educated in this area.- Top

Should have asked him
If he is smart enough to know why the 2nd Ed. manual from April doesn't work in the June car, then he must be smart enough to know when the cross over was.
After all, this is supposed to be a learning experience on how to make your car even closer to how it left the factory. Any ding on the points, even if you agree, should be questioned as to what is right just so you know, even if only informally and not as some official protest.
Otherwise, if you only know you did something wrong, but don't know what is right, how can you ever correct it?- Top

Re: Should have asked him
I did - the response was "We expect to see a First Edition Manual in a June car"; at the time, wasn't going to argue about it on the field for one point. Don't intend to let it slide next time, though- Top
