    '58 Trunk Weatherstripping

As normal, I'm a little bit confused. I put new weatherstripping on my doors, decklid and trunk. Doors and decklid are great. Trunk won't close. Have I used the wrong weatherstripping? What I used is like the decklid weatherstipping. I can't seem to find a picture, schematic of the configuration of the correct trunk weatherstripping. I know it's molded from reading the judging guide, and not tubular like the 59-61. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance. David

You don't say how far off it is. Will it close but not latch? Not even come close to closing? Did it close with old weatherstripping or no weatherstripping?
If it closed before with no weatherstripping maybe the latch just needs adjusted. Hard to give advice without all the details.

      Terry,

With the former weatherstrip, it closed and locked. With the current weatherstrip, it will not even come close. I totally strip the car two years ago and have been working on it since. Like a fool, I didn't keep the old strip for reference. It doesn't fit into the groove along the side and binds on the upper area of the groove. I think I used the decklid weather strip instead of the trunk one. What I need to know is what the trunk lid weatherstrip looks like. Is it like the '59, tubular but thicker or is it totally different? There are no '58's I know of in my area, so I can't visually check it out. Any help in determining what its configuration is would be much appreciated.

That's what it sounds like as they are both 160 inches long. According to my parts book the truck weatherstrip is the same for all Corvette's from 53-62. The deck lid is the same from 53-60. Hope this helps.

Upon checking some of my aftermarket catalogs, it seems 58 is different from 59-62. I was going by the Chevrolet Body Parts and Accessories Catalog from 1966.

            Terry,

Are you saying that the trunk and decklid weatherstrips are the same? Corvette Central lists them as different #'s and states in "59 they changed to a tubular shape as opposed to a molded weatherstrip in 53 to 58. Maybe I attached the weatherstrip incorrectly. I fastened the flat area abutting to the area that goes up/down from the edge. I'm still confused. Maybe I'll just order a new strip. They're only $19.20 at CC. Thanks for your replies. If you can add more I'd be grateful.
