    C1 61 Tranny Identification

I just purchased a 61 and I'm trying to identify the tranny in the car. Its all aluminum the main case T10-1C and tail is T10-7D. I cannot find a casting date? or part number?? Its difficult to see with the linkage etc. in the way. This car has a end of Feb. Build date. Any idea of its application.
    Thanks, Peter

    Re: C1 61 Tranny Identification

    Peter-----

The T10-1C main case was used for both 1961 Corvettes and passenger cars built after about November, 1960 and right through 1962. The T-10-7D extension housing was used for 1962-63 Corvettes and passenger cars. So, the tranmsission may be a 1962 unit or it may be made up from parts from several different transmissions. Most of the T-10 parts are interchangeable.

The code information and VIN derivative stamped on the main case would reveal a lot more about the origin of the transmission.

Find the casting date on the psgr side of

the tail extension and the assembly date on the driver's side stamped into the rear edge of the main case - Starts with "W" and probably ends with a "-#"
