Re: Wrong! It's exactly wht this BBS is for...

I don't see anything wrong with posting information on vendors and shops here that are both pro and con. I think when someone opens their business to the public, they should be prepared to accept reviews of their performance, as long as they are based in fact. The great thing about the internet is that it was difficult to exchange this type of information years ago.

It should not matter if the business/vendor is a member. People can make their own judgement as to the validity of the information.

I did not see the post as a personal attack but a statement of one person's experience. I find these types of posts to be some of the most useful.

      Not in My book Either

Well, we are all entitled to our own opinion, but for me, best value of BBs is to INFORM. Inform me of how to do something, inform me about what to watch out for. Keep one's mouth shut about a bad experience with a shop that another NCRS member is considering using? Now THAT would be wrong. Now I must admit that I take one "negative report" as just that and I am usually not going to form a negative opinion based on just one person's obvious animous for the service-provder in question, but here the person reporting does so with a rather compelling and factually-rich file, so unless all the supporting detail was fabricated it's not just a case of a random personality conflict.

And it is certainly his right to offer his opinion (which, since I am also looking for a "good" resto shop in the NJ-NY-CT area just as the original poster, is highly relevant and interesting to me.) If Ron wants to post his side of the story, that is his right too.

Re: If I did not have proof, you would not believe

If I didn't know Ron I might believe this, but having worked with him on a rough car over the past couple of years, I can tell you I would trust him completely with any Corvette work. There is always another side to the story and I know the good Doctor, too, has P.O'd a few people and made enemies along the way, rightly or wrongly. If anyone wants to know more about Ron's there are a lot of people who are quite pleased with his work who would be happy to say so.

          Re: RESTORATION SHOP NJ/NY AREA

I would recommend Unique Motorsports in CT, they have restored many Bloomington Gold,Duntov, and PV cars. From 63Z06's to L88's, the owner is a NCRS member and also ownes 67 Black/Black L-89 Conv. He has done work for me many times. Phone # 860-585-6223

The shop which did mine went under...

...right after they put the body back on the frame (painted). The proprietor (ex-) felt so bad about not finishing it he had the car flat-bedded to the collision shop he was working for after, and the two of us finished assembling the trim etc., at no charge to me whatsoever. Nice guy, excellent work, I only wish he was still there (Jacksonville FL) so I could give him references.

Is H.B. the owner of Unique Motorsports?

I hate to be a party pooper, but I'll first wait to see if Mike L responds to the NCRS email I sent him less than an hour after his recommendation. I'll not hold my breath past 7:00 PM tonight. I will post some jpegs of a paint job that I had done by another "shop" in Connecticut nearly 30 years ago.

I think I know who Mike L is referring too, as he says that fellow owns a 1967 Black/Black L-89 convertible. There cannot be many of them in Connecticut if GM only made 16. Right?

Re: If I did not have proof, you would not believe

I have been doing business with Ron's Auto Restoration since 1998. Ron is presently finishing a second frame-off restoration for me. During this entire time, I have had nothing but positive experiences and have found the quality of Ron's work to be second to none. His first restoration, a 1962, achieved every award possible, including Duntov and Triple Crown. I have also recommended Ron to number of people, all of whom were completely satisfied with his work. I trust Ron with my cars and will continue to recommend his services.

                    Geoff,

At last count, GM made about 116 L-89's in 1967. Next year this time it will be 132. They multiply like the rabbits in your garden.
