C2 side and vent glass installation ??

Have broused through the achives but didn't find anything to address my question. When installing vent or side glass into the frames should one lubricate the sheathing that goes onto the glass edge or will the frame tap onto the glass dry? If a lublicant is used is soapy water the way to go? Lastly, shouldn't the excess sheathing be cut off along the frame edge once the glass is in place?

Larry:

Have had good success with soapy water. Stand the glass vertically on a well padded bench. Spray or brush on soap solution, tap frame onto glass with rubber mallet. Flush solution from glass and frame with clean water. Dry with pressurized air. Trim excess with single edged razor blade or Exacto knife.
