    How does one do that...?

Yes, that's what i'm talking about - if the difference is enough 'seating' won't make up for it either. And I want to say if memory serves the mis-match was notable last time I did this.

But at any rate - just how would you go about having them re-arced? Is that something certain machine or brake specialty shops might do?

Do they need to detach the lining from the shoe and somehow flex it a bit to get a better match w/ to the little drum-'lette' radius?

Just curious to hear more about the process (sounds beyond a DIYer) and how to find someone competent to do such a service.

In my state mine would technically not pass. Such testing is variable at best here but this is one of the areas they usually do take the time in some form since it's easy - so basically I've been lucky and/or they've been generous - the fact that everything else is OK and condition is excellent probably helps.

    thanks,

Most quality brake shops have a machine to arc-grind drum brake shoes; they measure the I.D. of the drum, clamp the shoe in the machine with the grind radius set to match that of the drum, and the machine pivots the shoe against a rotating vertical abrasive cylinder. After a few passes, the surface of the shoe lining will exactly match the surface of the drum.

Re: ...same here but I'm not impressed by my ebrak

They never learn. F..d SuperDuty trucks have the shoes inside the rear rotors. Have had to run chasing the truck more than one time. Block of wood works wonders

All, I read in my G.M. Service manual that after you install new shoes and adjust them, you burnish the new linings by road test the car at 50 mph "apply the parking brake until a light drag is felt (10 - 12) notches. Operate the vehicle at this speed for 50 - 60 seconds. Return the brake handle to the release position. This is on a 71. Hope that helps.

Ref: Tech Service Bulletin --- May '66

Sorry I'm getting to this thread so late.

GM recognized that there was a low mechanical advantage of the relay lever at the frame X-member. Revised design entered production (until end of '66) and a modification of lever frame bracket to accomodate new design lever is shown. Don't know how many were ever changed -- my '65's have factory configuration.
