I noticed recently that one of the rear springs on my 59 was bent near the rear shackle. These are the original springs. Is there a service available to straighten and re-arch these springs. I would appreciate any feedback on the issue or recommendations for replacements

Re: No matter who does it...
Eaton-Detroit Spring in Detroit ( www.eatonsprings.com ) is another fully qualified service center for spring re-arching; they completely disassemble the spring, inspect it for fatigue, and do a Brinell hardness test before going any further. Their process includes 1800-degree heat, re-cambering, oil-quenching, 1000-degree draw furnace annealing after quench, and shot-peening followed by another Brinell test prior to re-assembly.
This process is particularly important for C1 rear springs, as the grooved raw material (SAE 5160 steel) is no longer produced by any of the steelmakers, so it's not possible to manufacture correct replacements from scratch.- Top
