    Carter 3461S Rebuild Kit

Restoring the Carter 3461S on my '63 340HP. What experiences has anyone had with any of the carburetor rebuild kits on the market. Which brand and part # seems to offer best fit and function for this carburetor. Which automotive supplier would offer this kit?

Lastly, any suggestions where to source correct or functionally correct metering rods for this carb. Spec's call for them to 69/60. Thanks much. Mike

I can't tell you if one exists for this model or anything like that but for old QJet's I've had good luck w/ the 'Echlin' (I think that's how it's spelled) kits from NAPA.

Noooo idea on the rods - I have extra QJets I scrounge parts out of or sometimes comb thru the carburetor piles at a local junkyard.

    good luck,

most kits are all made by the same company nowdays no matter what box they are in. make sure that the gasket that seal the needle seat to the top body of the AFB are a "screw on fit" to the needle seats to prevent any leaks. i have had to use the orignal gasket from the carb to get a good seal because the ones that come in the kits have too large a inside diameter and do not seal all that well with out a lot of screwing around. Federal Mogul sells metering rods and the number for a .069 X.060 is 16P-123 the ZIP KIT from F/M is 902-181A

Here's a place that sells rods. Don't know anything about them.

Also try Edelbrock, Summit, Jegs, etc. The currently made rods for the Edelbrock AFB also fit your old AFB.

          Mike,

I bought a rebuild kit for my AFB at the local O'Reilly's/First Call auto parts store (not sure if O'Reilly's is nationwide or not) and it worked just fine. The kit was by Borg Warner and cost about $25.

Try Chicago Corvette for the metering rods if the other sources do not pan out (they should have rebuild kits too). I needed a replacement choke piston and link for my AFB and Chicago Corvette sold a good used one to me for $10. I think they have quite a few used carb parts laying around. I was very happy with the service.

          Good luck.
