Last Saturday the Northeast Chapter had a Tech Meeting with an outstanding and informative presentation given by Al Grenning. He presented an overview of his research into documenting original trim tags with slides and details of known original St. Louis and Dow Smith installed tags. This body of work was purchased by the NCRS. Does anyone know if this info will be published as a seperate book or updated into the judging guides?
Thanks
John
From what I understand, this will be published sometime in the near future, as part of what I believe is called an authentication series. I was told that maybe by the first of the year, but you have to remember I suffer from ncrs (never can remember s..t) disease.
An "Authentication Series" is exactly what we need
Documented examples of Trim tags, Broach Marks and Correct Stampings of any and all components (ie. Blocks, Frames, Anything with a Date, etc) needs to defined, documented and made availible for purchase to members of this organization.
Someday, like it or not folks, we need to recognize the future of the NCRS depends on being able to pass the baton to our up and coming members.
Everybody DIES and the knowledge taken with them we be otherwise lost forever.....
I know this takes time, but to start with it really should be nothing more than a simple collection of detailed photgraphs with year/date/option specfic information about the item in the picture.
Re: An "Authentication Series" is exactly what we
Terry, when Bill Clupper was president of NCRS in the '80's he spoke of the "graying of the NCRS". There has been talk of 'passing the torch" to the younger generations ever since I have been in NCRS. The more knowledge we can document and publish, the better the history will be preserved. We have looked at so many restored cars, we think that original cars are not correct. Thank goodness for the BowTie Award. I have as of yet to look at a Bowtie car and not learn something else new.
Contrary to what some think, the NCRS is in very capable hands that have a strong interest in preserving the history. There will be a whole series of books coming out in the future on authentication .
