C2 Turn Signal Flasher and Capacitor

    Hello,

Who or what vendors are a good source for the correct turn signal flasher and the brown paper-like capacitor that accompanies the flasher? My original is the round, aluminum Tungsal flasher that I still have, but I replaced long ago since it was faulty. When I replaced it there was no sign of any capacitor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    James-----

I believe that Fred Oliva of Vintage Automotive Research reproduces the turn signal flasher capacitor. I don't know of anyone that reproduces the flasher. Current replacement flashers are different than the originals in external configuration but fully functional.

If you can get inside your old flasher you may be able to repair it by cleaning the contacts. Original flashers like yours may be found in lots of old GM cars of the same general vintage if they have not been replaced. Of course, these will be used and who knows how much life they have left in them. But, this is the kind of easily installed item that you can use for judging only and then install a modern replacement. Used this way, a used flasher can be "immortal".

      Joe,

Thanks for the response. I am getting ready to ship my fan clutch to Fred for restoration. I'll inquire with him on the capacitor. Maybe he can repair my original flasher. Glad I didn't throw it away.

        James,

Your original flasher should be yellow plastic, I'm trying to find my picture and post it.

            Kevin,

Per the 1963/1964 Corvette NCRS Judging Manual the signal flasher is either a round, aluminum Tong Sol model AP373V or a rectangular Signal Stat model 143. What is the model number of the yellow one in the pictures? The judging manual says that the flasher is metal not plastic. The one in your pictures appears to be yellow plastic.

            Thanks,

            James West

It's off my 67, sorry didn't know which year you were talking about. I threw away all the metal ones I came across at the junk yard.

                Kevin,

I should have specified in my original post what year I was inquiring about. Thanks anyway for the response.
