Was this number ever used on front control arm shafts for midyear cars?

Yes, it was. GM #3738505 was the forging number used for the LOWER control arm shafts. Not just for mid-years, either. It was used for most 63-82 Corvette applications. The exact same shaft was used for 58-64 Chevrolet passenger car applications, too.
