Now beginning to reassemble my car. The books show 3", "arrow shaped" wedges on the doors of the coupes. Are these used on the convertible also? Can not find any of these in my parts boxes from the tear-down operation. Help please. jackdr

Jack
My original 69 has two Brass "Arrow shaped" wdges to help the door seat correctly still on the car. The are not supposed to be painted, based on my knowledge and I have no idea who remakes them, check with Paragon. If I can help with anything else, drop me an email.

Re: Door Wedges - 69 Conv.
Jack:
Not only are they used on the doors, but also on the decklid. On midyears, and probably on your '69, they are used in pairs, and (try to) ensure that the doors and decklid align properly and stay tight when closed. They are now reproduced in dark grey nylon, and zinc (1 nylon + 1 zinc=1 pair). They are available from any of the usual Corvette supply houses. You'll need 4 pairs for your car.

Re: Door Wedges - 69 Conv.
Thanks Joe, I appreciate the response, however, the deck lid wedges and the door wedges, at least on a 69 conv., seem to be different. I have the wedges for the deck lid and they are installed. They are quite small. This door wedge is huge, I'm talking about 3" long and about 1" wide and pointed on one end. Thanks again.- Top

Re: Door Wedges - 69 Conv.
Jack;
I'm no expert on sharks (although I know a little bit more about midyears). I'm sorry I couldn't help. Long Island Corvette Supply arguably has the best catalog available, with cross referenced parts listings, and very comprehensive exploded views which closely match the AIM. Unfortunately, they only carry midyear parts. I'm sure that some shark experts will chime in with some good advice.
I don't know of any specialty houses that deal with sharks only............although 1968-1970 (well, maybe 1971) would be appropriate. AFAIAC.

Re: Door Wedges - 69 Conv.
I don't think they're reproduced. Try some of the used parts suppliers, or you can occasionally find them at flea markets. They are TOUGH to find...sort of like the 69 carpet grommets. There are different usages in coupes and convertibles too....AND they varied throughout 69 production. Rick Bizocco's 69 Stingray Guidebook has a pretty good description of these big brass wedges used in 68 and 69 only. Chuck1963 Corvette Conv. 327/360 NCRS Top Flight

Re: Door Wedges - 69 Conv.
Thanks everyone for your responses, especially Rich and Kelly who seemed to, best, understand my question. Yes, these wedges are available from several sources, (Zip, for one, shows them on page 36 of their latest catalog). They run from $20. ea. used to $52. ea. new. I know they are used on coupes but my question was, are they used on "convertibles". I can't find any documentation of, (1) were they used and (2) if they were used, where do they mount, which would have been my "follow-up" question. One thing for sure, and that's why this board is so GREAT, everyone is willing to help out a "Dummy" when he has a question. jackdr- Top

Re: Door Wedges - 69 Conv.
yes they were used on convertibles and you should have the holes two of them on the side of door jamb were the lock is , just above there you will see two holes , about an inch apart , a self tapping screw was used . depending on the time of birth of the car or a replacement door they had some changes to a cover that al;so would have used self tapping screws for the inside cover for the lock- aplastic cover found inside the door, but they use one hole on each angle . have you got an assem , manual? 69 aim, page j163 it shows all brother. i believe i have a couple email me they are not new , if i can help email- Top

Let me know if you have a hard time locating where they should be mounted, I'll take a couple of digital pictures of my car. Remember that they must line up with the plastic wedges on the quarter plates
