Re: When did you do this?

Not more than 3 months ago Loren, AZ is still cooperating, I wouldn't discourage anybody from trying for title info even in a sticky state (like CA), low cost / high reward in terms of getting prior info, worst that can happen is you get the $6 (or whatever) check back. I even got a copy of an elusive CA title from AZ, as it had been turned in when car was titled in AZ - CA of course has yet to respond to my requests (they might still) so I guess I did an end-run 'round 'em!

For ALL: A good list of state DMV offices can be found here, then you have to nose around the particular state DMV site to locate the title info request form:

good luck, may you all find the original owner still alive and willing to share his original copies of the window sticker, protecto-plate, photos of the car coming off the delivery trailer, etc.

      N othing in my records

Jack, I checked my records on AZ 63's and found nothing. I do recall the White/Red 63 that Loren mentioned at B&J. I did not get a chance to look at it up close. Good luck on your search. The form posted is the same one I have. Eric

Re: N othing in my records

        Eric,

I sent the form off to the AZ. DMV today (with $5.37). I had to call them first because of the confusing nature with the form. (I can't fill a government form out to save my life!) The person that answered the phone was very pleasant and quite helpful. I appreciate your enthuiasm to help me through the purchase. I feel James West (who also answered this post) gave me a good picture what I would be looking at as far as restoration items. The only thing that is difficult to see is in side the engine (of course). It's still a minor concern. If I get one step closer to the original owner with the AZ DMV information, it was worth the effort.

Re: N othing in my records

Great. I am glad to hear that they were helpful. You may want to keep a copy of that form ready. In the past AZ has charged me $5 a record so if there was 6 owners that = $30. I usually send a check for $30. They will then credit you back. Or you can send a blank signed check with a note written on the front not to exceed $X.XX. I never felt conmfortable doing that so I sent a fixed amount. expect a quite a few weeks to pass before they arrive. Eric

            Multiple records

Interesting! I asked the person who helped me and she told me she would provide me everything back 5 years (certified record search). Could she have been "fibbing"? I guess I'll find out. I made copies of what I sent in so I'm ready to take the next step.

Re: N othing in my records

agree about overfunding up front but I should point out that it is $3 "per record" (AZ was pretty generous with me on what constituted a record) unless you need it certified (and THEN it's $5 per), which, unless some financial institution somewhere is requiring such of you, I do not see the need for. So I would not pay for or indicate a desire for certified reocrds.

I gave em $6 up front and that so happened to cover it (2 "records", about 10 pages worth) . . . . but I am curious since it seems AZ DMV adivsed our intrepid searcher to include some exact amount, was that postage they were hitting you for?

$5 for certified search and $.37 for stamp

I thought the $.37 might be some new TAX in AZ The online form only shows the price as $5.

For an extra $4, they would FAX it to me.

good luck, hope you turn up something. Let us know the results, interested.

on the same topic of prior owner info, I just had a breakthrough today when I tried some searching on a variation of the name of the 81 - 97 owner of my 65; the MI title shows him to be "Zaplzynski" of which none exist in the entire US, near as I can tell. (I have better search powers than most, given my access to legal-research databses). Well I tried "Zapczynski" on a hunch today, and lo and behold found him showing up in the MI town identified on the 1981 title. More letters to write (Mr. Zapczynski, if you are reading this I'll be in touch!)
