I received a gasget kit from Paragon today for my engine (400HP). The head gasgets do not have the 3 water passage holes that are in the block and heads. I went to several local stores today and they too only had the gasgets without the holes, even though the felpro packaging listed my engine in the applications. One shop had the ones with holes but they only listed later year engines in their application. I finally found ones with the holes at a race s shop, but they wanted $40 each (must have gold in them). This wasn't supposed to be difficult. Can someone give me the felpro part# that is correct for my engine. It is the original block and heads.

Re: 67 BB HEAD GASGETS????
the gasket with 3 extra 1/2" holes below the center bolt holes are mark V gaskets. mark IV gaskets which you need do not have these holes and have 2 water jacket shaped holes on each end where the mark V only has 1 water jacket shaped hole on each end. the gasket you need is fel pro 8180PT-1 if you want to use a composition gasket. i do not have the number for the steel shim gasket.- Top

Re: 67 BB HEAD GASGETS????
i have a 3935439 BBC block here and it does not have the extra holes below the center head bolt holes. i have used the 8180PT-1 on race engines with no problems. if you want a gasket with the extra holes and want to use a steel shim gasket the GM number is 14015351. this is for iron heads only. this is the gasket that came on your engine originally. you must use aluminum hi temp paint as a sealer if you use the steel shim gasket. the fel pro composition gasket requires no sealer.- Top

Re: it is your choice as either one will work
Found out the additional 3 holes are for quicker draining for racing engines that drain their coolant between rounds. I'll install the ones without the extra holes that provide proper routing for cooling. Thanks.....- Top

It's not clear to me which "3 water passage holes" that you're referring to. However, I'm going to assume that you're talking about the 3 large round holes near the "top" of the block's deck surface. These holes "mate" with similar holes in the cylinder head, although the center hole in the cylinder head is usually smaller than the outside holes. This is the general configuration for all Mark IV blocks which include all 1965-90 big blocks.
The cylinder head gaskets used for these heads do not have similarly sized large holes in them to match the size of the holes in the block, although one of the holes on the gasket MAY, depending on the gasket, be of similar size. Often, though, the 3 holes in the gaskets which "mate" with these holes will all be of a much smaller size (like about 3/16"). Your gaskets should have these holes. In any event, the following gaskets are correct for your application and WILL WORK PERFECTLY, as-supplied:
GM #330860----PRODUCTION steel shim type; same type as originally used on your engine
GM #14015351----SERVICE-only steel shim type for high performance use
Fel-Pro #1017-1---Composition-type gasket with stainless steel wire rings; no re-torque. Best there is but expensive.
Fel-Pro 8180PT-2---rebuilder-type gasket
