C3 NOS frame

Recently purchased what is claimed to be an NOS frame for a C3 big block restoration. Steel is magnificent with no pits. Frame is equipped with both a 4 speed bracket and an automatic type bolt in crossmember. Does anybody know any real history on such a frame (frame does not appear to be current reproduction frame)? Frame was never used on a car. Seller claimed it was in storage for many years.

Is there any markings? These could offer some insights.

Look at passenger side front wheel well...is there a stencil and what does it read?

Look at driver's side toward back of rail where the door sill mounts...any stamped VIN derivatives?

Complete SERVICE frames for Corvettes were once available from GM, although not for quite a few years. SERVICE frames may have been slightly different from PRODUCTION frames since, sometimes, features present on several different PRODUCTION frames were incorporated into one SERVICE frame so that one part number would SERVICE different applications.

I can't tell you any more about the frame than you already know without knowing what the part number of the frame actually is. This number may be stencilled on the side of the frame rails or other places on the frame and/or there may be a GM parts tag located somewhere on the frame. If present, these will serve to identify it and I may be able to help with further information. It's hard to say if the part number is still somewhere present on the frame. However, I can tell you for CERTAIN that if it's a GM SERVICE frame, it once had such a number present on it and that number was almost certainly in one of the 2 formats that I mentioned.

Your description is the same I was given several years ago of a service replacement frame. REgareds, Terry
