    Reattaching Stingray emblems

Anyone ever attempt to reattach the side Stingray emblems on a 69-76 after they were removed when the car was painted? If so, how did you reattach them. I really don't want to use the service replacement emblems if I can help it.

Ed, it can be done. It is very time consuming. You need to find a roll of very thin, double sided, molding tape. On a day that you think that your patience is good is the time to do it. After cleaning all the adheasive from the emblem, apply the tape to it. Take a very sharp knife, Exacto (I use a scapel, works for bulls too)etc and carefully trim the adhesive tape. Be careful to keep the blade sharp so as to not leave rough edges.

After you have pulled your last hair out, trimmed a couple of fingers, used most of the roll of tape, you might want to reconsider Trim Parts repro emblems. To the best of my recollection, they are right on.

...how'd you paint your Stingray emblems?

      Hi Ed,

Per the response above - if it helps... one place you can buy thin adhesive like mentioned above is an auto paint supplier that mostly cater to the paint and body shops in your area.

But I have ask - 'if' you repainted the emblem - how did that go? Any tips or tricks? Those emblems are chrome but the base portion of them was black (semi-gloss?) I believe and the black portion often flecks off over time/age/washing etc...

      thanks,

Not hard at all. I have not attached the stingray emblems on the side of 69 or late cars. If they use a post with speed nut, no big deal. But, I don't think you would be asking if that was the case. I recomend this.....apply the double sided stick tape to your emblem like the other people said, then look at the emblem and find a line that is level through the lettering (preferably at the bottom of the script). Mark the emblem with a piece of tape or something. You can carefully put a piece of masking tape on the top of the emblem and then mark the tape with a pen or black marker, that way you are not marking the emblem itself. Do this to both emblems so they are identical. Next, locate the area on the car where you want to put the emblems. Find the level with a piece of high quality masking tape and run a piece horizontally in the area you are working. Find the correct level and location for the emblems. Put the tape on the car length wise and look at it from a distance to make sure it is level with the car. Take measurements or whatever you have to to find the correct level and location. Look at original pictures of other cars to get the ideal location. There is probably technical information on this if your car came with this emblem. Once you find the right level on both sides of the car, you can then mark the tape on the car for the right lateral location. There will be no guess work when you are done. You should be able to get it perfect. Hope this makes sense. Terry

          Reattaching Stingray emblems

Thanks Dick, I was not aware of a "correct" repo part. I checked out the Trim Parts web page. The part looks great, and will be my plan now.

Ed Most of the time I fit them before painting and they just pop in and hold themself. Lyle
