the 2 "L" shaped yellow and foil backed heat insulation pieces , under the forward footwells , the question is -the correct placement should be ? One has a couple square holes for what ? not the rectangular holes for the attatchment of the shield s , i have held them under the vehicle several times , just not able to correctly decide on folding the tabs and marking this fragile material as yet , there is a bulletin but have not yet seen the contents of such .

Re: early 69 heat insulation/underbody
I meant the NCRS judging manual but that is wrong. It is in a technical service bulletin for 68 corvette. The right hand side pad should have a cut out with a cut coming off it. That is for the battery cable. The TSB says to fit the left pad (shiny side down) over the splash retainer (I believe that is the metal tab at the leading edge of the firewall), coat the the tunnel area with adhiesive and cement the pad to the tunnel so that the pad completely covers the left half of the tunnel. Then cement the the pad to the toe pan area. Coat the floor pan with cement and guide the rear edge of the pad up and over the crossmember untill it lays flat. When positioned correctly it should leave about 4 inches of floor pan exposed along the outer edge. Install the right side the same as the left but you need to work around the battery cable. Remember the notch is for the battery cable. The illustrations shows a cut slot off the square notch (I believe towards the center of the car. Hope this helps. I would also suggest an assembly manual. It should be shown in some detail in there. A service manual may also discuss it for 69 corvette. Good luck. Terry- Top

Re: early 69 heat insulation/underbody
I just sold a very original 69, very low serial number(less than 500). I saw no evidence of glue, just the tabs that bent over. This job will be almost impossible unless you have the tranmission out of the car. They will only fit one way. As stated foil side down. The wide part toward the front with the wing(I'll call it) toward the inside. These will be under the metal shields.- Top

Re: early 69 heat insulation/underbody
Wayne: i've ran 7 and 8 inch wide wheels(all 15" in diameter) and have't had any significant interference problems on my c-1's . since i don't know the offset of your 16 x 7's, i'm gonna guess you won't have problems using them on your 62. what i'd do is bolt them on, then spin wheels before droping jack to check to brake drum to wheel interference (doubt that'll be the case but the check is simple) then lower car , fire it up and go for it(gingerly at first, then start putting it thru some corners. if any strange noises eventuate, slowly drive back home, raise car and look for signs of interference(front inner skits most likely site if there is interference). good luck, mike- Top
