    Dual Carb tag dates

Does anyone know what the time relationship should be between the engine assembly date and the carb tag date should be. Were the carbs sent with the engine to the car assembly line or added during assembly. This same question applies to the distributor tag and the generator tag?

Ah, good question, amigo. Here's a simple method that's almost foolproof. Open your AIM. Does it show instructions for St. Louis personnel to install the item? If so, you can pretty much bet it wasn't part of a supplied sub-assy/assy. AIM was documentation to final assy plant on how to put the car together.

Example, you WILL see the carbs, fuel pump and engine fuel lines going on (Flint typically 'tuned/tested' using propane instead of gasoline). You WON'T see the intake and/or exhaust manifolds going on because they were already assembled 'upstream'....

'Typical' answer to question about relative dating on these components is anywhere from right at the engine assy date up to NCRS 6-month rule. Most grouped nicely together (makes sense, who wants to pile excess inventory?), but there are/were exceptions because components were pulled rather randomly for bins/storage facilities for the final build AND there were the infamous 'repair pit' deviations....

The distributor (with tag) came on the engine - the generator was installed at St. Louis.
