Aluminium Intake Cleaning

I would like to clean the gas stains and grime from my aluminum intake that is still on the car. Does anyone have any ideas?

If you want to clean it on the car, some spray carb cleaner might do the trick, especially if it's not badly stained.

Eagle brand "etching formula" mag cleaner diluted with water. (If you don't do the entire intake you will see where you cleaned and didn't).

If your real careful, a jell type paint stripper works well. On the car I'd probably try something less aggressive first.

I've had good results with Simple Green; various brushes; and hosing off afterwards. Take off the air cleaner and cover the carb. A shower cap works great. Gently hose. Only hose a cold engine. Use a tooth brush for the complicated places. Naval jelly (the kind for aluminum) is the next step up in aggressiveness of the cleaner. After you get it good and clean, coat it with WD-40, or it'll form a whitish powdery coating.

Try Greased Lightning. Worked great with tooth brushes, etc. Will dry to a dull finish. Maybe the WD40 would help that.
