    Horsepower

I have a 1966 427 with what horsepower? A book i recently purchased stated that 1966 427's were actualy 450 hp. Yet in Hemmings motor news adds say documented 450 hp. Is there a way to tell what I actually have.

    Thanks Tom Burke

    Tom-----

VERY early 1966 Corvettes with L-72 engine had air cleaner decals that stated "450 Horsepower". Chevrolet dropped this horsepower designation very early in the model year and replaced it with "425 Horsepower" decals. The engines were identical. Only the air cleaner valve cover decals changed.

You have to tell more than having a 427 in '66. The numbers on the engine pad will tell, if the engine is original.

If not, it is anyone's guess.

BTW, the high performance Corvettes were run hard and put up wet. I'd look carefully at any of the high performance versions that are supposed to be original.
