The design of many of the current wheels for cars have made the brake system a visual part of the cars appearance. For that reason and the one that Clem has suggested I would not use the dust covers. Owning several German cars which come with some of the dirtiest pads around I've found the best way to deal with it is to change the pads out for cleaner ones. The last three new cars I purchased I drove home and changed the pads. There are good performance pads out there that work great and give off little visual dust. I didn't realize the C-5's where bad but if you check with aftermarket suppliers I'm sure you can find some cleaner pads for your car and driving style.
I've used them for over 10 years on various cars - 190 Mercedes, 328 and 538 BMW's with no ill effect, and liked them very much.
They do work, although some folks believe you give up some cooling to the brakes under heavy use circumstances. I don't use my brakes in an overly "aggessive fashion" however, such as autocrossing and the like.
I used the Kleen Wheels product.
They do have slots in them to help direct air back to the calipers, but I couldn't verify for you how effective they are.
I will not however, be using them on my 68 Vette as I don't think I'll have a problem keeping such a low miles car's wheels clean.
