71 Wheel Stem Length Change?

I have a 71 with the finned hubcaps. I also have some trim rings and center caps from a friend, I wanted to change to the rally wheel look for a while just for the change of pace. My valve stems seem VERY long and were needed for the hubcaps. Does anyone feel that I should change the stems for the trim-rings on the rally wheels?

Peter,

As I understand it originally the cars with PO2's actually had the same valve stem as the other rims. The factory added an extension to it to make it longer and actually useful once the PO2s were installed.

Your car may have the original length plus the extension, or more probably an entire longer stem was used.

You have the option of leaving it, or considering a swap to stock length valve stems with adding extensions when you reinstall the PO2s.

Valve stem length is 1 1/4 inches regardless of which wheel trim is used. PO2s used a 1 inch extension.
