The early 66 grille was not fastened at it’s top. Fastening was through the four inner fender support and a j-nut through the bottom center grille flange and through a fiberglass tab. According to Nolan Adams, a top support bar was added in mid Jan. 1966 that continued on all 1967 cars.
Did the upper center fiberglass tab exist on the early 66’s even through it wasn’t used? Was there an upper flange cast on the grille even though it was not used? I have a Dec. 65 build date car and am trying to decide on the proper grille fastening. My new NOS 66-67 grille has an upper flange cast into it.
