    engine compartment blackout question

Was the engine compartment blacked out with or without the following components in place?
Control arm and bumper brace dust shields, wiring harness clips etc.

I have no references in the engine compartment to tell me one way or the other.

    Thanks

    Chuck

    Re: engine compartment blackout question

I have seen unrestored cars with original dust shields in place and they do have blackout paint on them.

For C3, wiring/vacuum harness clips were in place as well.

Why not start with the year of your car? *NM*

Are we talking C1, C2,C3? A question came up this last weekend at Chevy VetteFest on C1's. Were the harness clips and fasteners in place during blackout? If not, then the philips screw head fasteners would not be painted but the clips were prefinished black. If they were in place, the same screw heads would most likely be totaly painted or at least partially painted, and the clips would have overspray on them, correct? What do the experts say for C1's? Thanks.

In general, any clip that was riveted, was installed in the Body Shop, and was thus in place at the engine compartment blackout operation at the end of the Paint Shop (the same applies for cars with upper control arm dust shields).

The photos of the Body Shop subassembly operations in Noland's books are excellent references for seeing all the items that were installed in the Body Shop.

              Close enough?

I thought the black out process was universal, my appologies for my chronological fauxpas.

Many thanks to those who responded.

So John, are you saying that on C1's the harness clips within the engine compartment were in place during blackout? These were not riveted on though were they? I am speaking of the J clips used and the philips head screws that held them in place.
