    C3 '70 LS5 Oil Pan

For those with the true original pan,..where is your drain plug located?
    Forward,left,right or aft?

    Re: C3 '70 LS5 Oil Pan

    Jim----

All original Corvette big block oil pans, and there were 4 different part numbers used over the 65-74 period, have the drain plug located on the rear left lower surface. As a matter of fact, there were only minor differences in the pans used in PRODUCTION and these minor differences did not include any change in the oil drain plug mounting.

Big block pans used for other Chevrolet chassis applications may have the oil drain at other locations. Some of these, I know have the drain on the side. I believe that most of the passenger car pans will fit a Corvette chassis but I don't think that the Corvette pan will fit most passenger car chassis.

Yes, that's the general location I'm talking about. It will be just forward of the bellhousing inspection cover (so that when you remove the drain plug the oil hits the cover as it drains). The drain plug should be well left of center on the pan, though.

          Joe,
My plug is dead center on the back side of pan...not left, not right.

Is the bottom of the pan's sump almost completely flat, with just a little protrusion near the oil drain, OR is there a "V" shaped protrusion which extends back from the oil drain area to the "point" of the "V" about 2 inches back from the rear of the pan? If it's present and you look straight up at the bottom of the pan's sump, you will see the "V" shaped configuration.
