Just got the latest Autoweek, that contains an article that states that the elusive / rumored 6th GS was "turned into a puddle of moltent aluminum" at GM's Milford Proving Grounds in "late '64 or early 65".

Ed Welburn, GMs' new desing boss, initiated the investigation. Former employees were tracked down and offered up details of the car's demise. Very interesting.

Interesting! Just a few weeks ago there was a thread about a "sixth Grand Sport". I responded that back in the sixties and seventies I was under the impression that there was a sixth car that was lost in a fire, but as the years went by and the cars and program were researched and several histories published, there was no mention of a sixth car.

Looks like my 30-35 year old impression might be correct, but I cannot recall how I came by it.
