Re: you are not going to make any friends if you t

That's quite a dilemma. As a purchaser of a Corvette, I would want to know all I could about the car, good, bad or indifferent. I once made a LS6 car out of a LS5, prices for "real LS6's were thru the roof, back in '89,90. I sold this car to a Corvette collector-dealer in Ca. Years later I ran into a gentlemen who knew where this car was and that it was represented as a LS6 coupe. I explained to him, that I had modified the car years earlier, and who I sold it to. I believe this info will be passed on someday and possibly help someone not in the 'know' to avoid an upleasant experience. That gentlemen needs to hear of the Corvette's past life, somehow, someway.

I'v seen many bowgee Corvettes and 55 Chevy, don't they repro every thing?
Like Vin tags, engines numbers, dealer papers, and parts, and on and on and on. Rarely a bowgee Corvette can fool a person that has had an original Car or Corvette, and realy LOVES that particular year combination.. Mine is 55 Corvette, your's may be another year, they always miss some thing. Many judges can be fooled and the judging book won't cover all aspects of a Corvette. So what's the answer= "like buyer be ware"

Re: you are not going to make any friends

i would think that your friend who did not know corvettes and what to look for would have contacted you for advice since he must have know you are into corvettes. if you tell him now you are saying you were stupid for not asking me first. no one likes to be told they made a mistake. like i posted before about the fake casting dates i had emails from owners who found out that they were taken but i am sure they did not want everyone to know. if your friend finds out all by himself that is different than you telling him. the worst thing that could happen he finds out it was your old car. me i would keep my mouth shut and see what happens.

It is a problem for you. However there is a guy in Omaha with a 67 L88 car that he represents as an original. Well it was my fathers Shrine car. Had a 350hp 4 speed in it. He offered me big bucks to back up his story. I don't have any problem telling anybody that it is a fake! Just my experience. GL

The simple answer is to take some one that REALLY knows that year and option of a particular Corvette. If I'm spending 30K and up for any classic Car that I'm not knowledgeable about , then sham on me.To many people think they know or won't to keep it a secret from others. Again I say buyer be ware or buyer be sorry.

                You're walking on thin ice...

Since you are not an accessory to this scam, technically it's none of your business. If you want to make it your business, be prepared to take the brunt of an irate Corvette owner, and it's potential associated legal consequences.

Remember, anyone can sue anybody for anything, yourself included. Silence is golden.

                      Bill,

first I must clear up a point the new owner is in no way a friend of mine .. in any way shape or size .. as for the "way the car matured" .. it must of had all the work done by a very knowledgable person .. all the correct marking, stencils, etc .. even some paper work .. like the tank sticker (which is impossible since the tank had been replaced) .. as far as this person being stupid .. I don't think so .. the workmanship is so good I am totally convinced it would rate very high if so judged at an NCRS meet .. the car is a very well done .. just not a 435 hp car ...

                        Duke,

How this kind of got started was by me obtaining some very old "documents" from my mother's estate as she is now 92+ and my father has long since passed .. one document in particular shows proof of insurance, the VIN and my name along with a date .. you see I was living at home when I owned this car .. remember I was only 18 at the time ... photos are not available ...

                          Re: Think Carefully

I know what the car isn't .. proving what it was .. could be done but it would be difficult since tracking owners through the state of Pa is all but impossible .. I suspect the person who made up this car .. knew how to use the system to cover all the bases ... I just hate to see an 80K+ mileage car turn up as a 20K something mileage car that I can prove

If you ever have a chance to closely inspect the car and its documentation it would be interesting to know how good of a fraud it is. How does the pad look? casting numbers and dates? Quality of counterfeit paperwork? What level of expertise do you think would be needed to detect it?

                                Tom,

The level of detail is outstanding .. I am 48 and have been into Corvettes since I was 16 .. unless you really owned the car (in its previous life) there is no way (in my opinion) that you would be able to tell it is anything but what the owner states it is .. there maybe some judges that might be able to pick up a clue ... but I think I would even bet against that ... that is how good it is
