    Re: 3885069 Intake Manifold

    Steve----

GM casting #3885069 is an aluminum manifold designed for use with SHP big block engines with rectangular ports. It was used from 1966 through 1968 on most Chevrolet models with these engines, including Corvette.

The first finished manifold produced from this casting used a "3 hole" carburetor flange; one oblong hole for the right side cylinders and 2 round holes for the left side cylinders. This configuration was used for most applications during the 1966 and 1967 model years and was known as GM PART #3888099. For the 1968 model year, the part number remained the same, but the manifold was revised to have a "2 hole" configuration with oblong holes for both sides, but with a complete center divider. This manifold was never used on Corvettes, but was used on 1968 full size Chevrolets, Camaros, Chevelles and Chevy II with SHP big blocks.

The third variant of this casting was an open plenum design with the center divider partially cut out. This manifold was used only for 1967-68 L-88 applications and was known as GM PART #3886092.

The application that yours is for depends upon the plenum configuration as described above.

Thanks Joe - I am looking to purchase this manifold and wanted to be more sure that it would fit under my 66 with big block hood. Current manifold holds the carb too high to fit the normal air cleaner.Steve

It should fit; it was the original one used for L72 applications. Even if the plenum configuration is different than originally used for 66 L-72, that won't affect the height of the manifold.
