    Re: 68 L-88

if I remember correctly you have a white with red interior 68?? A woman that lives in one of the complexes that I do business in, has the same car, 17,345 miles. She seems interested on selling. I thought it would be cool to sit mine (blk/red) next to her (white/red) 68 in my garage for good. It was appraised at $29,750. she wants a bit less. GOOD or BAD deal. It's in Florida. jc

        Chester -- good memory.

I do have a 68 BB convt, white, white top and red interior with about 18,000 miles. This one is a matching # 427/390. This is way too coincidental with your lady friend!!!! What is the likelyhood of 2 identical 68's with nearly the same milage. By the way, i have posted mine on several sites and in Driveline for $30,000! She shouldn't take much less.

The car I reference in the post is a car that I have shopped and thought about buying to restore.

        Take care.....

            Re: 67 L-88 update

Hello Patrick, what amazed me in the first place reading the article was that the car didn't have the original engine. Apparently they found all the right pieces to build a clon, that's correct but, 500K is a lot... How was the car? Best from Argentina, Roberto NCRS #30019 RMC

                Re: 68 L-88

You've gotten reams of advice. Best advice I can give you is to go into the bathroom, close the door, call a Board of Directors' meeting, look in the mirror and make a decision....

One of our chapter members had a similar situation '68 L88 with 'soft documentation' (only had tank sticker). Catch-22 is how does one prove that tank goes with that car and didn't come from a raced/wrecked L-88?

He gathered 'hard parts' for many years and had enough together to make a numbers matching motor. But, three things caused him to abandon the project in the end....

                (1) Couldn't get 'hard documentation' on owner history. Might

make a car that would judge properly at NCRS, but this is

an 'appearance' issue vs. hard core correct/original item. (2) Car was a '68 -- in addition to the L-88 motor, the basic

'68 restoration is difficult and costly due to the large

number of running changes during the modely year.... (3) When done what have you got? Zora intentionally designed

the L88 with deterrents to casual street use (no heater,

no choke, no radio, no fan shroud). So, the car in its

'factory correct' configuration is of little use on public

highways (cold starting is tough, without fan shroud it's

easy to puke the cooling system in summer stop/go traffic,

                Etc.).

Decision is yours. I tend to agree with advice of others -- this is going to be a VERY COSTLY restoration. The final vehicle has little use besides concours show, conversion to full bore race (so why restore in the first place) or that ocassional 'kick in the pants' drive where you won't run into competing traffic....

Thanks for each of your inputs.

I think the net is to keep my 68 427/390 -- I know what this car is and isn't . Trying to rebuild a questionable L-88 most likely won't prove lucartive.

                    Thanks again.

                        Roberto,

It was beautiful. It was restored by the Nabers Bros in Houston, and it don't get no better than that.

Remember, the "12 mile coupe" 67 L-88 of last year, at $750,000 bid, doesn't thave the original motor either...
