Did the lower V shaped shields for plug wires change in any way between production and as a service part? How many different GM numbers did these go by?
For 1963-67 there was only 1 set of "V" shields used in PRODUCTION. These were GM #3819763, left, and GM #3819764, right. In SERVICE, these shields were known as GM #3819761, left, and GM #3819762, right. The PRODUCTION and SERVICE shields were exactly the same in configuration. The only difference was that the PRODUCTION shields were minus 1 or 2 rivets which were installed at St. Louis. The SERVICE shields had the rivets already installed.
The same shields as above were also used for 1968-69.
For 1970-82 things changed. In 1970 the motor mounts were changed to the locking style mounts. So, the shields had to be revised to avoid interference with them. From 1970-onward there were many different configurations of these shields used in PRODUCTION and SERVICE. Some of these became the SERVICE shields GM catalogued for 63-69 applications after the original shields were discontinued.
