C3 Headlight rattle

My headlights seem to rattle when they are up or down,
does this require spring replacement only or is there another cause.

David, check the doors for excessive movement as the source of the rattle. If excessive movement is causing the rattle, you may need to replace the door bearings.

If you replace your bearings, you will want to preserve your original aluminum bearing supports if they have not already been replaced. Replacement bearings have stamped steel supports which is incorrect for originality purposes.

Press the bearings out of the stamped steel supports, and re-install them in the original aluminum supports. Be very careful as you press the new bearing into the old supports; put a thin film of grease on them, make sure they are aligned perfectly, and go slow. It won't take much to break those aluminum supports. There was an article in the "The...Restorer" many years ago showing how this is done.

My C3's have a screw adjustment at each headlight that has a rubber bumper covering the head of the screw adjustment that could let a rattle occur in the up position.
