My 66 small block oil pressure line is bad and I'm replacing it with a repro. I was told that none of the repro parts houses supply the correct dia. line as was the original. Supposedly, the original line diameter was smaller and this line dia. is no longer available. Does anyone sell the correct repro? The JM says very little about this line
I had trouble locating the right one for my 1965 SB, which is probably the same as your 1966. The question was not diameter, but who had the proper copper plated steel line, as opposed to the unplated steel line used for the BB. I found the proper line was being sold by Corvette Central (2 years ago).
I had some talks with the purchasing managers of two familiar parts houses re: the solid copper lines that they were (are?) selling are prone to embrittlement. Don't know if they now sell copper plated steel.
C1 Corvettes used a 7/64" oil line for the oil pressure gauge. I don't know if this size was continued for C2, or not. I don't think that the 7/64" tubing size is manufactured anymore. Even if you could find some, finding the correct fittings to use with it would likely be near-impossible. I'd recommend using the 1/8" line, correct, or not.
Dave: if you gotta have the 7/64 oil press line, go junkyarding. I'd check out the late 40's to early 60's chevy and gmc trucks, the bigger the better, to allow more length than you'll need for your c-1. Fittings off the big truck will probably be the style you'll need too. good luck, mike
