I an looking for the correct harmonic balancer for a 61 FI motor. I saw on E Bay, a balancer for 62-69 FI Corvette's. The picture looks like what was described to me that mine should look like. I know that this is becoming important in judging so I want it to be right. It is item #2446595460 Part #3817173. Is it correct for the 61? If not what is the right part#?

Re: Is this the right balancer?
Jack------
GM #3817163 was never originally used on a 1961 Corvette. It's first use was for 1962 Corvettes with 340 and 360 hp.
Your car requires balancer GM #3764318. This is a 6-1/8", "stepped" balancer with the smaller diameter "step" on the INSIDE. I think that this balancer is available in reproduction. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Is this the right balancer?
Jack: hope joe is correct regarding repro availablity of this extremely difficult to come by harmonic balancer( they typically brought 500 to 1k for an original a year or two ago) that you need for your 315hp engine. good luck. mike- Top

There is a "quasi-repro" but it 1/2" extra in
diamter and has holes drilled in the outer part of the balancer. Joe is correct that the real balncer is 6 1/8" and the blueprint specifies NO HOLES in the outer rim.- Top

Re: Is this the right balancer?
Thanks Guys:
As usual you all have come through in a big way. Believe it or not I have found a few sources that sell the balancer, but it may be the quazi-repo that Loren refered to. Corvette Central has one for $236.00. Goat Hill has one for $175.00. I was told today, that a company by the name of Paragon? may have one, but I do not know yet how to contact them.I was also told that no matter where you get it from it probably came indirectly from Goat Hill and to avoid dealing with Goat Hill directly.- Top

Re: Is this the right balancer?
Jack,
Paragon at 1 800 882-4688 lists a balancer for $205.00 outright. Their description says it is a rebuilt original and has details on how it's rebuilt. Their part number is #4814. It's listed on page 16 of their new 53-62 catalog.
You can rely on them to stand behind their products. If it's not right and they can't make it right they will refund your money. No questions asked.
Regards,
JR- Top
