I'm one of those people that love factory options and my 55 Corvette has about every option ever offered for the year 1955. BUT I do also love unique after market items like my oil eye indicator. I'm always asked about the things my Corvette has installed and the two things most asked about are the lighter and the little glass thing they see under my dash. I don't know the year some where in the 50's a company sold a indicator to aid you in checking your engine or trans. oil with out looking under the hood. As you can see its a cast housing, glass bowl , vacuum operated oil eye indicator.A metal tube is set down the trans stick tube and set to when you push the indicator button it lights and draws the trans fluid into the bowl letting you know that the level is OK and if your a quart low no oil . You do this at a ideal and the engine vacuum fills the bowl with oil.
The AC lighter with the AC logo R/S of the oil eye works like this , you put your cigarette in and push the chrom ring in and the cigarette is lit automatically .I also have the flame-less ash tray that also uses engine vacuum that sucks the cigarette in a bottle behind the kick panel driver side while lit. I've had other ask me to post this just for fun and tell others.
