    intake/H2O fitting removal?

any special tool to remove this bogger? It has a thick flat edged (screw driver shaped slits in it) should I heat it up, don't want to break the alumium intake. I've tried everything in the tool box. jc

I ground down a socket to fit the slots and used an air impact after soaking with blaster overnite. Also mention I widened the slot to make the socket strong enough. And put a bolt in socket to keep it centered against fitting.

It seems that you've corn-fused me. the slot looks like you could get a one inch wide flat head screw drive in it. It's about 1/8 to 1/4 wide. jc

Yes one could. But the torque to break it loose far exceeds my ability. Thats why I use a socket ground down with two protruding prongs to fit into the slots so the impact does the work. I hope I'm not making this more muddy.

Hi Folks, A trick I have used when I felt that any more force might break the manifold is to take a hacksaw blade and insert it into the fitting and saw thru the fitting in 3 or 4 places until it almost gets to the manifold. Then take a punch or screwdriver and tap the fitting towards the center to relieve the interfence fit. Again = this is done slowly by hand. Once it's out, run a pipe tap into the hole to clean out the threads and use some anti-seize on the new fitting before reinstalling the new fitting. Hope this helps. Page Campbell #2299
