GoodYear Power Cusion Gold Lines for 65?

    Gentlemen,

I have the opportunity to purchase for my 65, a set of Good Year, Power Cushion, Gold Line tires. The size is 7.75-15. They are DOT tires with the following codes: MBN5 8WE477. Would these tires be considered correct for my 65? Thanks again for your help. Dan K.

65's originally had "non DOT" tires. All tires in late 1968 began to receive a "DOT" stamp. It's been awhile and I can't personally remember the dating system Goodyear used. The chances are good that these tires are repo's which would receive some point deduction. The judging manual will give you the specifics.

Thanks Mike. Do you know if Polyester was available in 65?

      Thanks,

      Dan K.

I believe that original 65 tires were all nylon. Others may chime in with more information.

Originals were Nylon construction, The actual name of the '65 Goldlines is contained in the JG, it escapes me at the moment, what you are looking at appear to be the Reproductions fron '77 or so, incorrect in material, profile (width and height) and name of tire.

OK, Thanks Bill. If I should run across a set of Nylon-Rayon tires from this era, what could I expect to pay for them? I am assuming they would be usable for judging. Thanks again. Dan K.

They would be Nylon for Goldlines, and all other Corvette applications in the '65-67 era. They would be EXPENSIVE! For Judging, I believe the Kelsey Goodyear is the Best available in reproduction. There is a substantial difference between then and the ones you described earlier.
