Does anyone have any additional info on the two 315 hp 1960 cars mentioned on page 281 of Nolands Tech Guide 1?

Re: 1960 315 hp
Gino,
I saw what looked to be a real 60/315 HP car at Barrett Jackson about 3 years ago. It was a beautiful car with what looked to be real documentation. My recollection is that it sold at the Scittsdale auction. You could check the previous auctions part of their web page and they might assist you in finding the person who bought it.- Top

Let's put it this way: If Chevrolet would not
give the 315 HP package to the Cunningham team for Sebring and LeMans, they didn't give it to anyone. See the Restorer article that spells out that 13 engines were assembled, with dates, and given to ENGINEERING for further testing - NOT to St Louis for cars.- Top

Re: 1960 315 hp
In 2000 I repaired the FI unit on a red 1960 Corvette that had just been bought at the Barrett-Jackson auction for around $60,000. This car arrived with a three ring binder of documentation saying it was a factory 315hp, big brake car. None of the documentation was from GM.
This car was brought to me by the very nice owner who had just bought his first Corvette. It had run (stumbled) across the auction stage and up on his trailer, but that was about as far as you could drive it. I fixed the injection first. That included replacing the '62 plenum. I adjusted the hydraulic lifters (really) in the restamped block, repaired the steering, and got the heater and wipers to work. The brakes stopped okay but were not metallic, finned, or scooped. The owner later did a lot more work on the car and received a Top Flight at a Regional meet.- Top

Re: 1960 315 hp
Jerry,
Thats interesting. I remember looking quickly at the car and the owner had a long story to tell. As I remember the car it was very nice cosmetically. I wasn't interested so I looked casually and listened. I don't imagine that buyer will be going to Barrett Jackson anytime soon. Another buyer beware story.- Top

Re: 1960 315 hp
Another testimonial for a novice owner needing to hire a competent appraiser. But sadly it happens all the time. A good friend from CA asked me to look at a 196- coupe, all the right options. 400 hp, red etc. Sadly was a color change, epoxy casting and date numbers on the block. Decent stamp and pad though. The bad thing was that another good friend owned the car. I told both up front that I would call it black and white, not gray. Needless to say I lost the friend that was a car owner. (he bought the car as a numbers matching)Dick Whittington- Top
