    58 FI fuel filter

I am seeking information on a correct Fuel filter housing, bracket and element for my 58 FI corvette. I wish to take the car for NCRS judging. What should I look for as judging points and where could I find one?

    Re: 58 FI fuel filter

Steve - The 57/58 FI fuel filter is available in reproduction. Last time I checked, both the early and late styles were available. That has to do with a round or square boss at inlet and probably outlet. Check the judging manuals and your VIN to make sure you are after the right one. Real ones are out there. WAY out there. I believe the repros judge quite well, but the real ones are neat too. Especially after you finish making the payments. Corvette Central carries the repro and I'm sure other supply houses do too. Best, Dennis

      And Steve...

What the judges also really love are the 2 B&H logo headed bolts that attach the filter to the bracket. Probably won't come with the repro but a wonderful man by the name of Gary Pronesti seems to have an unending supply. Email me for contact info should you reach that point. Best Regards, Dennis

Does anyone know what I can expect as a point loss on a reproduction FI fuel filter, bracket and bolts at an NCRS judging.

Steve - Don't have score sheets in front of me to know how many originality and condition points are on the filter. But just for fun, I'd probably take a point off if the repro didn't have the mfg logo stamp (need a mirror as installed). Mike would probably take an additional point for Gary's bolts. As I mentioned before, I believe these filters judge quite well. (One judges opinion)...

Would my car with a build date of Jan. 15, 1958 be considered a late car?

Steve - It would probably be considered a late car if you are talking about the FI fuel filter in 1958. Probably square boss inlet/outlet & whatever. But, in my humble opinion, your car car would not be considered a late car with a Jan, 15, build. That strikes me as an early/mid build car. Stay in touch. DC
