    '57 Body to Frame Alignment

What can be used as reference points to determine the body to frame location? I recently had the engine and automatic transmission completely rebuilt. Everything on those two items appears to be correct. Upon re-installation of the engine/transmission assembly, two areas indicate misalignment. #1. The shift lever is to close to the back edge of the shifter console plate. #2. In the engine compartment, the R.H. verticle ignition shielding hits the heater box frame near the firewall. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    As Always, Thanks!

    Re: How about this

I'm no wiz on 57s (68s my game) but how about this for posers

Can the engine mounts be flipped upside down causing a forward/backward shift?

Was the shifter assembly as it was prior to the pull?

Was the body lifted and re-set?

    Just ideas.

    Chuck

      Bob,

Happens to us all sometimes. The engine can shift just a small amount upon reinstallation and cause your problem. Just loosen the engine mount bolts from both sides of the engine. Loosen the bolts on the engine mounts going thru the frame. Loosen or you may have to remove the rear trans mount bolts from the frame and the transmission. Probably remove. Then take your friendly pry bar or whatever and gently shove and jiggle the trans to the right side or passenger side of the car. Hold some pressure there and tighten or replace the bolts you just loosened.

      It will be OK.

      Regards,

      JR

        Chuck:

The shifter assembly is good. The body was not removed. Not sure on the engine mounts, I didn't do the work but I will check it out.

        Thanks,

        Bob
