    Re: title

Don't know legal ramifications, but If you saved the vin plate from the burnt vette, it'd add value. mike

      Re: title

People do this with airplanes because we need logbooks and airworthiness certificates. If you have a complete flying airplane, it's not airworthy without the paper work. Since there is no standard regarding the "data plate" on older airplanes you are allowed to make one, so the paperwork sometimes has great value.

As Mike says, if you have the VIN plate, that package would be worth something. Other discussions here have talked about how to obtain a new VIN legally in some states. Could it be one to match your title? I don't know. Of course, there will be some stretching of the truth depending on where the "new" car gets registered. In NY, they ask you to certify that the car is not salvage when you started with it. If it was, I think there's a different process.

      Don't throw the title away.

      My 2 cents

        Re: title

This is a legal question, not a Corvette related technical one. You need to consult with a lawyer in your state who is familar in these matters. Call your local Bar Association for a referral. That's the real answer to your question.

Who do you think would buy this title? For what reason? And, if they do something bad with it, do you have any potential liability? Duh. Of course you do!

Let your conscience be your guide......

I've been a used car dealer for 30 years and have sold several totally destroyed or burned hulks at salvage auctions for, shall we say, surprising prices. Just make no mistake about what that title will eventually be used for. Not a condemnation, but your name will be at the beginning of the trail. Not worth it IMHO.

          Regards, Larry
