My '64 was built either late in the third week or early in the fourth week of September '63. Would a carb dated third week in September '63 be considered correct and not receive a deduction ?
'64 Carb & Assy dates the same week; yes or no?

Re: '64 Carb & Assy dates the same week; yes or no
Carb was installed on the engine at St. Louis vs. when the engine was built in Flint. Therefore, the key date to track is when your car ran down the St. Louis final assy line. Use the VIN number to interpolate an approximate final assy date or one of the 'Corvette Birthday' calculators.
Judging rules for dated parts generally allow a 0-6 month prior window. There are exceptions to the general rule and these are defined, by individual part, in the specific Judging Guide books for the various years of Corvette as well as in the NCRS Judging Reference Manual.
However, the carb had to be built, tested, and be shipped to St. Louis--this generally took some time, typically a week or so. Once in plant, carbs were inventoried randomly, so it wasn't necessarily a first-in/first-out situation in terms of date code alignment. That's why the general rule for dated item is a 0-6 months prior window; addresses random skew.- Top

Jack, Thanks for your input. I can't find anything in either the TIM&JG. the Judging Reference Manual or the archives that gives a specific answer and I was hoping to hear from a couple of well experienced judges. According to the B'day Calculator I used, the build day is Monday of week #4 so I would think a week #3 carb is possible. Frankly, I have a very nice restored service dated carb and I don't see any reason to spend $500 or so to change it unless I get full credit for the week #3 carb.- Top
