I agree with you. I think the same thing, but several of the NCRS mechanical judges think different. Its one of those grey items that can go either way like the embossed vs. unembossed PF-25 oil filters. It all amounts to a small number of points but it would help if there was some consistency. Some day we will figure all this out and have nothing to discuss. !!!!! Enjoy the holidays.

Joe, the "true" wire mesh really went to 1984. Even the late '79s to '81s had that "stretched diamond mesh"(looked like an elongated diamond, still wire mesh and soldered)A 212 CW that said "Protect your engine...." Even the original 1984 filter(which I have several) featured this wire mesh, elongated diamond pattern.

That's interesting. I thought that I had purchased the ones that I have about 1978 or 79. Also, the last application shown on the box is for 1979 models of something (although that may just be the last model year that they were used in a PRODUCTION car). It's possible that I did purchase them after 1984. I'll have to examine the boxes more carefully for any evidence of a date.
