    1969 Alternator 1100882

    I have (2) 1100882 61 amp alternators which I THINK are the originals for my L89 and L71 coupes. One is dated NOV 68, the other FEB 69. Both have the negative ground bolt hole on the rear case located just below the "REMY" with no raised mounting boss (flush). I just saw an "original" 882 for sale on ebay with a FEB 69 date. However, the negative ground bolt on the back of this one is located more towards 2:30 to 3:00 (if viewed top up) on a raised mounting boss. I also see a 1974 61 amp alternator on ebay with the same raised mounting boss on the back. (Just a note, the alternator pictured in Vette Vues Fact Book in the ZL1 motor/rolling frame picture pg. 102 shows this raised boss also).

    Can any of our alternator experts tell me the difference in the rear case configuration?

    Lawrence-----

    The "points of identification" for a 1969 alternator splt ring (rear) case half are as follows:

    1) ground terminal fitting "flush" on rear of case (actually, to be 100% accurate, there is a raised boss around it, but it's only about 1/32" higher than the rest of the case);

    2) 7 fin heat sink;

    3) Delco Remy script with NO small rectangular boss below it.

    It's possible that some very late 69s might have used the 1970 style case. My original owner, September-built 1969 did not, though. IF they did, then they would have been configured like the 70 alternator split ring case half as follows:

    1) ground terminal boss raised off the rear of the case (about 1/4") with small "ribs" supporting it;

    2) 7 fin heat sink;

    3) Delco Remy script with a small, rectangular raised boss below it;

    After 1970 or 71, the 7 fin heat sink disappeared and was replaced by holes.

      Lawrence:
      In addition to what Joe has said, the grounding bolt on the '69 is in the 5:00 position and the 70 is in the 3:30 position as you face the backing half. It is possible that the one you saw on e-bay had a front half with Feb 69 date but an incorrect back. The front, with the numbers, is the part that is very difficult to find.
      Hope this helps.

        Thanks all. From your detailed descriptions, the 2 I have ARE 1969 rear cases, and the one I see for sale has a later date rear case on it. Thanks again.
