    Warranty for '63-'67 When New

    Hello Folks,

I'm curious as to what the GM warranty would have been for the '63-'67 corvette . Was it something like, 3 years 36,000 miles and could you purchase extended warrantees? Is there any documentation as to the conditions and terms of warrantees from this period?

I purchased my first new car(64 Malibu SS 327/4sp), my second new car (65 Impala 396/4sp), and my third new car (66 Olds 442) in those respective years. I'm 99.9% possitive that the GM warranty was 12/12000 and no extended warranty was avail.

I recall that '63 was 2 years/24,000, but I'm not sure. I am fairly sure that '67 was the first year of the 5 year/50,000 mile warranty that the industry went to out of competitive pressure, but I think it only applied to the powertrain, everything else was 2 year/24,000. They got rid of the 5/50 after only a few years. The OEMs spent a TON of money on warranty, and Chevrolet replaced a lot of big blocks. That's why there are so many "CE" code engines out there.

In the fall of 1973 The engine in my early`67 blew a connecting rod through the side. My local dealer tried to have it replaced under warranty but the last of his Corvette sales on record ran out of warranty 3 weeks prior. It was 5 years for power train.

Purchased my 64 coupe new in October and was told by my salesman at the now defunct dealership, that the car was on display at the GM Building in Detroit before the dealership acquired it. I, and probably thousand others, routinely disconnected the speedometer, in order to maintain some balance of months to miles(36 months/36,000 in order to maximize any and all warranty claims. As a footnote, a since deseased acquaintence went through Two(2)427 engines a few years later before GM told him "Thats's it, no more" and dropped in the final and third engine in the car. As I recall, his car had a 4:11 rearend and he would chastise you if you didn't"get on it"when he let you drive his car.

'67 was 24/24 on the car and 5/50 on the powertrain.

My 65 original owner's warrenty book says 24,000 miles / 24 months. I know I used it right up to the end of 24 months. Had 3 sets of mufflers put on in 23 months.

I'm sure glad I didn't claim to be 100% sure that they had a 12/12,000 waranty.
