    60 rear axle bearings

I am having a hard time trying to figure out exactly what proper configuration is for the rear axle bearings on my 60.The rearend is a non positraction unit and according to all the parts books it is supposed to take a bearing and a seal , however when I pressed my old bearings off it is a sealed bearing with no separate seal. I purchased new bearings and they too are sealed bearings and they did not have the listed seals in stock so I could see what they were. My service manual is of no use since it shows a 53-55 assy.which was a c-clip type axle system. Does anybody know if I need the seals and if so how do they mount? I assume the sealed bearings are in lieu of open bearings and seals but would appreciate info from someone who has been there. Thanks

I believe that the seal referred to is in actuality an o ring. Some bearings have a groove for one and some have a groove for two.

The axle bearings are sealed from the factory. As another post mentioned, there is an outer "O"-ring. Not sure if you should have 1 or 2 "O"-rings on the bearings. I've seen them both ways. One other thing to note is that there is a steel retainer pressed on over the bearing.
