    C1 electrical/taillight gremlin

I thought I had all the electrical gremlins out of my '57 but one still remains with the tailights.

When I have the lights off, both signals work OK (ie, the selected signal flashes bright)

When I have the lights on, the left signal works OK (ie, the selected signal flashes bright , it and the right lamp remain on at normal intensity)

When the lights are on, the right signal works OK but the left light goes dark the entire time the right signal is selected. It should stay on solid at normal intensity. It goes back on to normal intensity when the blinker knob is returned to the neutral position.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

    Thx,

    Mike

I'd first check to be certain that both tail light housings are getting good ground(insert external tooth lock washer on BOTH side of electrical ground connector before tightening). If gremlins still persist, get assembly manual for wiring diagram or better yet buy the diagram from Lectric Limited aka chicago corvettes.( theirs is large and laminated and easier to read than ass. man's).mike

The brake/turn signal is an entirely different circuit from the tail light. The only common part of the circuit is the ground.

        Mike,

I would replace my turn switch since the brake light and turn lights are routed through this switch.

        greetings,

Sounds like corrosion or a short in the socket, as the taillight circuit (black wire) is completely independent of the turn signal/brake light circuits; check the black wire ahead of the socket for power under the conditions you describe - it should always have 12 volts when the lights are on, regardless of the brake lights or turn signals. If you see 12 volts there all the time with the lights on, the problem is in the socket.

sounds like 1 of two problems. check for good ground on all housings check one at a time use an ohm meter on each casing.(2) this may sound dumb but try another flasher if you installed a new harness and got the bulb kit and flasher with it, my experence have been the flasher dosent work normal
