Help -- '65 convert; 20 gal tank removal

I follow the instructions in the '63 Shop Manual and '66 Chassis Service Manual, ie. rotate tank (front downward), yet I get binding on the upper forward corner of the tank on the (vertical) rear bulkhead underbody reinforcement channel. Afraid to force any more rotation, 'cause the gas gauge outlet nozzle and ground clip connector are in contact with the rear frame rail. I have disconnected the tank straps and slid them off to each side. I have removed the vented fill cap, and I assume that because it's a convertible, I don't have to unbolt the fill nozzle (anyway, these items are not [yet] in contact with the reiforcement).

Am I missing something ? Are there any "tricks" ? --- TIA

Remove tank sending unit. sometimes i've also had to remove the filler neck but only on poorly repaired vets that had been rear-ended. mike

Wayne I had no problem on my 66.I removed the filler neck and both the tank straps and I kind of slid it then rotated it and it came out no problem.did you unhook the staps in the rear area so the tank can go slightley up.

Once you get your tank out looking towards the front I found this number on the rear bulk head,Keep your eyes open

          She's Out

Removed the filler neck (even though it's a convertible, and the shop manuals say you don't need to) and (with straps completely detached and pushed off to each side) pushed up and back at the sender gauge end, rotating forward and down with a slight bias to the other end. VERY tight squeeze. Would be a lot easier on early-mid '63's w/o the rear bulkhead reinforcement [could never figure out the purpose of this riveted channel -- ie. reinforces what ?]. Would equally be a snap if the sender assembly removed, but I lacked the special tool. Thanks Mike and larry.

BTW Got a better view of the body Job # and ink stamp date on the rear panel assembly.
