    1963-1967 origional shocks

I have a pair of front shocks that look like origional corvette shocks, I need to know if they go in the scrap can or are keepers, PLIACELL # 3171488 dated 237 67 DELCO PRODUCTS dayton ohio, very nice paint with a EN sticker on one of them. I think I removed them from a mid year parts car years ago, I know the date is late for a mid year.

    1963-1967 origional shocks

    John,

The 3171488 part number is correct for the F41 shocks used in 1966 and I presume 1967. If you are going to throw them out, I would like to pay to have them shipped to me instead. I'm thinking about another reseach project involving mid-year shocks and I'd love to have some originals to inspect. Let me know if you decide to toss them.

    Thanks,

    Gary

Re: They're already on eBay (link)

I was only trying to ID the shocks not sell them on the NCRS form, I have had no less then 8 offers to sell the shocks, that prompted me to put them on ebay my favorite place to sell, there have been times when the corvette cats have slammed me hard for the prices I have got out of my parts, ($300.00 oil cap etc) some guys are getting some good buys though, most are sold no reserve, please dont respond by wanting to buy parts off of this form, I have been trying to get my affairs in order for about a year and a half and have a couple more years of selling to go, my intrests have changed.

              Gary
My documented 66 still has its original F41's front and rear. I'd be happy to supply pictures and info for your future research project.

"I need to know if they go in the scrap can"

and they are already on E-bay!!!???!!! Give me a break. You already have a parts book or a Chevy parts man - he told you what they were, and now we're going to play "let's pretend"....

As I said in the message, ANY effort

with an old parts book or contact with a Parts Man who can go beyond his computer screen will tell you what the # is - unless you wish to occupy the position of a person who does NOT know that Chevrolet dealers have Parts Departments..........and there are Corvette owners who fit that title....but damned few who are also offering the same part for sale on e-bay.

Re hay loren I looked in the parts book

Loren I looked in my 1953-1982 corvette parts book GM rev 12-83 and that number wasnt there, I also punched it in to the computer and only found the number in a french? site since I dont speek french it did me no good, I removed them from ebay, after that Chuck Berge contacted me and wanted the shocks for a example, Im loaning them to him for as long as he needs them, seems like there is a bunch of 60+ year old grouchy old men on this site, lets keep it friendly, the reason for my origional question is I needed to know if the shocks fit any corvette application.

                            Peter: 1966 F41 Original Shocks

                            Peter,

Thanks. I appreciate the offer. Let me contact you after I get back from a holiday trip. I leave tomorrow, but I'll contact you sometime after Jan 1 to talk about arranging to borrow your shocks.

(Having been the first to respond to Mr. Meissinger's posting, I must admit that his posting now seems a little disingenuous.)

                              Loren, et al-----

This part number would not be found in a Chevrolet or Corvette P&A Catalog dated after January, 1971. As a matter of fact, since GM #3171488 is a PRODUCTION part number for the shock alone, it would not show as a SERVICE part number even in a 1963-70 Chevrolet or Corvette P&A Catalog. The SERVICE part number for the 3171488 shock was GM #3166559. However, P&A Catalogs previous to January, 1971 will show that the GM #3166559 shock as "stamped 3171488".

The GM #3171488 was used in PRODUCTION for 1963-69 Corvettes with F-40/41. It MAY also have been used for 1970 Corvettes with ZR-1.
