Would it or can this forum be a place to express ones thoughts about our Corvettes in asking people to get a survey on parts , changes, differences, I like describing what may have happened or not. Many people that know or think they know are shy about asking or posting a fact they think or seen about a subject that interest them. I lately have posted a few and by no means say it's written in rock . I see this in helping sort out a future article for a Drive Line subject. Am I wrong in my thinking???

Re: Nut and bolts Info???
Roy, I find your posts very infomative and they are definitely appreciated from my side. I had a '60 recently and currently have a '58. Both of these had lines or grooves in the front weatherstrip side that parallels the windshield post. My '58 has a small tab at the top above the window channel and the '60 didn't have the tab. By your post are you trying to validate your information? If not, in my case the article would indicate the ones for my '58 are possibly incorrect. Am I reading this right?- Top

Re: Nut and bolts Info???
Roy, I look forward to your posts as they educate and interest me. To me, there are many great folks in the NCRS who really want to be helpful and share information. And, there are "some" who prefer to hold tight knowledge so others won't know as much as them--why would anyone do that? Besides, everytime I see your post I know you are still breathing. Many fun years to go--Bill Texas without snow and in a T-shirt- Top

Re: Nut and bolts Info???
Ted! Yes 57 to 60 DO have the lines or grooves and the added seal at the top area. 56 dint,t. 61 and 62 had NO lines and the weather-stripping incorporate the seal for the top area, ( a one pieace unit).I'm putting this out to compile info to validate this. I've seen many mixed post assy. on the wrong year Corvette which in turn is causing the post not to fit against the window frame . Owners have trouble with air noise , water leaks and top fit.We must also remember that any early vett may have the last year vett's parts if it was usable. Remember I'am asking owners to look and think! not a argument. I know some one has the answer , higher up then me and that would make a great Artical for 56 to 62 owners.I think this forum is a great place to get people thinking and respond so NCRS can get in to the nuts and bolts of ALL years from owners that don't go to NCRS meets or write them. Thanks Ted- Top

Re: Nut and bolts Info???
Roy, Given your information, and my '58 and '60 posts, there may have been 4 designs of the posts through the years. The ones on my '58 have the grooves but the tops look like your figure 1 verses the '60 had the grooves and the top looked like figure 2. The '58 also had the filler stops at the top. Actually one side is completely gone and on the other one there is pieces of it still there. My '58 hasn't been restored yet and appears to be pretty original so it may be a good one to look at for verification on '58s. It is a very late car (i.e. built next to the last day of production for '58). I'm trying to find out everything I can so when I start the restoration process I have the correct parts to put it back as close to original. By the way did you see my other post on the fan blades? Do you know which one is correct? Keep up the good work!!! Thanks- Top

Re: Nut and bolts Info???
If you're trying to verify data, my very early 57 had what you describe as 56 door post. It did NOT incorporate the window stop. Post and weatherstrip still original. Now someone can determine when the change over occurred.- Top

Ted=Not trying to change subject-But
Ted, since your 58 seems original(?) can you answer the following:
1-rear bumper brackets railroad style versus L-shape?
2-front fender under reenforcements?
3-fiberglass trunk access panel covers?
4-fiberglass exhaust cones?
5-is your car black?
6-trunk underside nibs for the irons?- Top

Re: Ted=Not trying to change subject-But
Bill, the car does not appear to have ever undergone any significant level of restoration other than exterior paint jobs. For example the dash pad is original charcoal pebble grain (cracked all over the place), the door panels also are original pebble grain have the bottoms patched with cardboard box cardboard, pieces of the original daytona carpet are still in place, rear bow on the soft top frame has most of the fabric covered weatherstrip. These are some of the things leading me to the view that the car is mostly original.
Can you answer the following:
1-rear bumper brackets railroad style versus L-shape? Railroad style
2-front fender under reenforcements? It currently does not have them. I've partially removed 1 piece of side cove trim and I can tell some of the trim was taken off for painting a lovely light green, so they may have been removed and never replaced. I haven't cleaned under the fender to tell if there are any signs of them ever being there.
3-fiberglass trunk access panel covers? It has the ones that go over the railroad style bumper brackets that go clear to the inside of the quarter panels (i.e. flat trunk floor). The panel that completes the spare tire area is similar to the '60 except narrower.
4-fiberglass exhaust cones? missing but probably fiberglass, I haven't seen the tabs that held the metal tubes in place. I'll have to look closer. How were the fiberglass ones held in place?
5-is your car black? yes, original black, but has been painted 2-3 times "B" "L" "A" showing on trunk separator panel. I haven't removed the power top unit to see the rest.
6-trunk underside nibs for the irons? I'm not sure what you're asking but it does have the trunk irons with speed nuts on the bottom side
Is this consistent with other research you've done?- Top
