'67 BB CRANKSHAFT TO H20 PUMP BELT

As there are no adjustments on either end, how do you install the belt from the crank pulley to the H20 pulley?

No adjustment, whatsoever, on this belt. It's called a "captive" or "captured" belt. To install, you must first install the belt over the installed crank pulley and the un-installed water pump pulley. Then, "stretch" the water pump pulley with belt in the groove up and onto the waterpump hub so that the center hole of the pulley is engaged into the pilot of the waterpump shaft. Sometimes, it may be necessary to remove the water pump, install the pulley and belt, and then fasten the waterpump to the block face.

What I've done on a few of these I've had to do is to make two "all thread" studs. Put these all thread studs into opposite holes, put the belt onto the pulley and then the pulley onto two of the "all thread" studs. Then, using "nuts" on the all thread, tighten down evenly until the pulley meets the water pump shaft threaded piece. Then insert two of the original bolts into the empty holes, remove the all thread from the other two holes, then replace these also with your last two original bolts. I've done this several times and it works great. When doing this I also have "all thread" studs HORIZONTAL or parallel to the floor.

          Members,

Here's another way to get the job done with no extra tools and no hastle. Put the water pump pulley on and tighten it down. Put the belt on the water pump pulley and the crankshaft pulley on the belt. Now take one bolt for the crankshaft pulley and screw it into the harmonic balancer. Now turn the engine over until the bolt you just put in is closest to the floor ( fartherest from the water pump pulley). Then put in the other three bolts and the harmonic balancer bolt and your done.

Works for me. Try it--you'll like it.

          JR

The pully fits tightly into the recess of the balancer and centers itself. I assume you do not tighten the first bolt on the pulley, otherwise it would pull the pulley into the recess and not allow it to rotate closer to the water pump pulley when the engine is turned.

              Rob,

Just don't tighten it down all the way and it will rotate around and line up with the rest of the holes on the balancer. Works like a champ on all big and small blocks.
